THE ONE (POEM)
When the one whose hands you're holding
Is the one who holds your heart
When the one whose eyes you gaze into
Gives your hopes and dreams their start
When the one you think of first and last
Is the one who holds you tight
And the things you plan together
Make the whole world seem just right
When the one whom you believe in
Puts their faith and trust in you
You've found the one and only love
You'll share your whole life through.
HAND BLESSING
These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you.
These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as you build your future together.
These are the hands that with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other.
These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind.
These are the hands that will wipe the tears from your eyes,
tears of sorrow, and tears of joy.
These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.
These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.
And lastly, these are the hands that even when aged, will still be reaching for yours,
still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.
DR. SEUSS VOWS
Officiant: ______ & ________
Will you answer me right now
These questions, as your wedding vows:
Will you be as husband and wife
And will you love for all your life?
Bride & Groom: We will
Officiant: Will you have, and also hold
Just as you have this time told?
Bride & Groom: We will
Officiant: Will you love through good and bad?
Whether you're happy or whether you're sad?
Bride & Groom: We will
Officiant: Will you love if you are rich?
Or if you're poor or in a ditch?
Bride & Groom: We will
Officiant: Will you love when you are fit,
And also when you're feeling sick?
Bride & Groom: We will
Officiant: Will you love with all your heart?
Will you love till death you part?
Bride & Groom: We will
Officiant: Then if you'll be as husband and wife,
And if you'll love for all your life,
And if you'll have each other to hold,
From now until the stars grow cold,
And if you'll love through good and bad,
And whether you're happy or whether you're sad,
And love in sickness, and in health,
And when you're poor, and when in wealth,
And if you'll love with all your heart,
From now until death do you part,
Yes, if you'll love through and through,
Please answer with the words: I DO!
Bride & Groom Together: I DO!!!!
ALL I EVER REALLY NEEDED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN
All of what I really need to know about how to live, and what to do,
and how to be, I learned in Kindergarten.
Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain,
but there in the sandbox at nursery school.
Share everything. Play fair. Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours. Say sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you. Give them to someone who feels sad.
Live a balanced life.
Learn some and think some and draw and paint and
sing and dance and play and work every day.
Take a nap every afternoon.
Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the plastic cup?
The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why,
but we are all like that.
Everything you need to know is in there somewhere.
And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out into the world,
it is best to hold hands and stick together.
FROM THE MOVIE JUNO. (JUNO'S FATHER SPEAKING TO JUNO)
"Look, in my opinion, the best thing you can do is find a person who loves you for exactly what you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what have you,
the right person is still going to think the sun shines out your ass.
That's the kind of person that's worth sticking with."
MARRIAGE JOINS TWO PEOPLE IN THE CIRCLE OF ITS LOVE by Edmund O'Neill
Marriage is a commitment to life, the best that two people can find and bring out in each other. It offers opportunities for sharing and growth that no other relationship can equal.
It is a physical and an emotional joining that is promised for a lifetime.
Within the circle of its love, marriage encompasses all of life's most important relationships. A wife and a husband are each other's best friend, confidant, lover, teacher, listener, and critic. Marriage deepens and enriches every aspect of life. Happiness is fuller, memories are fresher, commitment is stronger, even anger is felt more strongly, but passes away more quickly. Marriage understands and forgives the mistakes life is unable to avoid. It encourages and nurtures new life, new experiences, new ways of expressing a love that is deeper than life. When two people pledge their love for each other in marriage, they create a spirit unique to themselves which binds them closer than any spoken or written words ever could. Marriage is a beautiful promise made in the hearts of two people who are committing their love and their lives to each other for life.
BLESSING FOR A MARRIAGE
May your marriage bring you all the excitements a marriage should bring and may life grant you patience, tolerance, and understanding. May you always need one another, not to fill your emptiness, but to help you know your fullness. May you want one another, but not out of lack. May you look for things to praise and often say, "I love you!". If you have quarrels that push you apart from one another, may both of you know to take the first step back to one another. May you enter into the mystery that is the awareness of each other's presence, no more physical than spiritual, warm and dear when you are side by side, and warm and dear when you are distant. May you have love and find it loving one another and may you have happiness and find it making one another happy.
A WEDDING BLESSING
Bless this marriage, as ____ and ____ begin their journey down the road of life together.
We don't know what lies ahead for the road turns and bends.
But help them to make the best of whatever comes their way.
Help them to hug each other often...laugh a lot, talk more, and argue less.
Help them to continue to enjoy each other as they did when they first met.
Help them to realize that nothing nor no one is perfect
and to look for the good in all things and all people including themselves.
Help them to respect each other's likes and dislikes, opinion and beliefs, hopes and dreams and fears even though they may not always understand them.
Help them to learn from each other and to help each other to grow
mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Help them to realize that there is design and purpose in their lives as in the world
and no matter what happens to them they will hold on to each other
and know that things have a way of working out for the good.
Help them to create for their children a peaceful, stable home of love
as a foundation on which they can build their lives.
But most of all, dear God, help them to keep lit the torch of love' that they now share in their hears so that by their loving example they may pass on the light of love to their children and to their children's children forever.
A HISTORY OF LOVE
Love. What a small word we use for an idea so immense and powerful. It has altered the flow of history, calmed monsters, kindled works of art, turned tough guys to mush, driven strong women mad, glorified the humble and made mincemeat of kings.
How can love be conveyed in the narrow confines of one syllable? The heart is a living museum. In each of its galleries, no matter how narrow or dimly lit, preserved forever are our moments of loving, and being loved.
